why?

Why did you select these topics?
We want to provide the tools for a range of responses to the Paradox of Language Development.
The last part of the course concerns most sophisticated abilities to communicate, mostly with words.
These abilities build on capacities for nonverbal communication, which is a form of joint action.
And these in turn build on the capacities for understanding minds and actions that emerge early in infancy and are also found in other species too.
So the course this year has been selected as a way enabling you to consider the widest possible range of responses to the Paradox of Language Development.
We are not assuming, however, that you will end up thinking of it in this way. There are many ways you could approach these topics.
